the perfect pair!

Time to try our next flavor combination! We decided on dark chocolate cake with a peanut butter buttercream frosting. Who doesn't love chocolate and peanut butter? After pouring over lots of recipes we mixed and matched and came up with a rough recipe to start with. Hot fudge sauce and heavy whipping cream were the special ingredients we hoped would take this chocolate cupcake to the next level. The cupcakes baked up beautifully with nice shiny dome tops.  How exciting! Even more exciting was that they tasted amazing! On to the frosting. At first our peanut butter buttercream was a bit thick, and we weren't thrilled with the texture. After a bit of tweaking, the consistency was perfect. So we frosted our cupcakes and had our husbands and friends try them too. The frosting was a huge hit! Everyone agreed that it was creamy, not too sweet, and perfectly peanut butter. However, most of our tasters felt like the frosting was a bit overpowering; the chocolate cupcakes sort of got lost. Back to the mixing bowl. Our second batch of cupcakes was just right. Moist, rich, and sweet with a nice dark chocolate flavor. The frosting and cupcake complimented each other wonderfully! We think these dark chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter buttercream frosting will be quite a favorite!
